200 UP AND RETIREMENT FOR YOUNG JIMMY

Jimmy Tarry on board the Hookie Bookie on his way to his 200th Point to Point winner in the intermediate race at Dingley. Jimmy had been stuck on the 199 winner mark all season, but finally his persistence paid off for all his hard work and time he has dedicated to the sport over the past 30 years. My own personal memories of Jimmy as a jockey are on board the fantastic mare Fine Lace and Lucky Christopher in the 90's. These two horses provided Jimmy with numerous winners and Fine Lace was near on invincible in Mens Open races. It was also a fitting tribute to the mare to have a race named in her memory at Towcester racecourse where she gained numerous Hunter chase victories. Jimmy is not the most stylish of riders, but his horses always seemed to respond to his urges. Jimmy's general hold up and waiting tactics always kept the spectators guessing as to whether he would time his challenge right at the finish. Sometimes you just never knew what was going to happen and that was the most exciting and amazing part.

After gaining this milestone of 200 winners to loud applause from the Dingley crowd. Jimmy inevetably informed us that he was hanging up his riding boots for good. Let's hope he has a very happy retirement from the saddle and we look forward to seeing him in the winners enclosure again as a trainer in the future.

Congratulations and well done Jimmy.
