Burton Set To Reclaim Championship Crown
Richard Burton looks set for another great season in the saddle and it is very difficult to look elsewhere for the winner of the National Mens point-to-point jockeys championship. Although finishing second last season 3 winners behind James Tudor, he did suffer the misfortune of substaining a broken ankle and put on the sidelines for several weeks at the end of the season.
If he can remain injury free this time around, he has to be the selection for this years championship. I know he will not be much value and the odds will be short. But he is prepared to travel the length and breadth of the country in search of winners and will get lots of choices to ride many top named horses. I am sure he must be looking forward to ride the up and coming The Accordian Man who looks destined to go to the top and the consistent Ballylusky will be one of his favourites after his terrific Mens Open performances last season.
I was glad to hear that Richard Burton has made great progress from his broken ankle and is fit and rareing to get back amongst the winners. It will be great to see him return to the winners enclosure this time around.
Burton's main challengers for the title this season appear to be James Tudor and Nick Scholfield. James Tudor will not relinquish his title easily and will more than likely be Burton's biggest danger. Especially if Bon Accord and a few of the other Alan Hill horses can run up several more victories.
Looking forward to another great championship and season pointing.
