South Midland Point to Point

Marble Set To Lead Them A Merry Dance

Kimble stages it's regular Easter Saturday meeting with another massive crowd anticipated, so lets hope the weather is kind and we see plenty of those picnic baskets bulging with plenty of goodies. Make sure you leave plenty of time to get to the course and observe the new road layout for cars entering and exiting the course. These details can be found in the News column on the site. This meeting has generated more entries than in the past few years and with 105 runners entered on a 6 race card we are hoping to see a decent amount of runners in each race on the day. The first race commences at 1.00 p.m. and there will be several stalls a fully licensed bar and various other catering facilities.

Confined Race

This looks a cracking little heat to get the meeting underway and in the hope we get several runners with the going almost perfect, the best form on show looks to be held between Peppershot and To the Top. Peppershot won easily at Tweseldown and then ran a pretty good race behind Mr Tee Pee in a Folkestone Hunter Chase, if he can cut out those jumping errors he is a very big player in this event and should relish this return to points. To the Top from the Alan Hill yard won well to beat Harem Scarem at Kingston Blount a fotnight ago and should push Peppershot all the way.

Selection : Peppershot (N.B)

Alternative : To the Top

The Ladies Open Race

Alan Hill looks to hold a very strong hand with Bering Gifts, Fauntleroy and Mr Splodge in what looks on paper to be a very competitive Ladies race. Fauntleroy has been in very decent form and Bering Gifts started the season well but you always have that niggling feeling in the back of your mind that she will throw in the odd bad run where she looks very reluctant to race. I am sure Alan Hill's other runner Mr Splodge will be in tip-top condition for his return appearance back in points after a light campaign over the bigger fences, he looks my idea of the winner and has most to fear from another local runner in Home By Midnight who has been running consistently well all season. If the going does not get any worse with the predicted heavy rainfall, Home by Midnight will be breathing down their necks at the finish. Blue Business also has chances but I would be surprised to see them turn up on one of the busiest days of the season so far.

Selection : Mr Splodge

Alternative : Home By Midnight

Mens Open

We have said this many times throughout the season but Irilut is definitely a horse to keep on the right side of in points. Irilut looks to hold a fantastic chance in this race but faces some stern opposition with the likes of The Hookie Bookie, Denvale and Persian Hero all running consistently well all season. The softer going should suit Irilut and he should add another Mens open success to his already impressive tally for the season.

Selection : Irilut

Alternative : The Hookie Bookie

Restricted Race

This race looks a match between Marble Leader and Bobbies Ryde, Marble Leader has produced 2 decent 2nd's in Restricted company and should have a good chance to go one better here. Marble Leader's main danger looks to be Bobbies Ryde who ran a decent 2nd behid Lord Brunello at Cottenham in February and won a uncompetitive Hunt Members race last week, he comes here in good form and from a stable that has produced some very useful horses in the past. I think this race could be nip and tuck all the way to the wire with Marble Leader just holding enough aces to prevail this time around.

Selection : Marble Leader (NAP)

Alternative :Bobbies Ryde

Open Maiden Race

As you would expect plenty of unexposed youngsters and plenty of dead wood which always makes maiden races very difficult to predict. Primordial Soup and Suir Castle have the best form coming into the race, of which I think Primordial Soup should come out the best of the two following a very decent second behind Silent Gunner at Didmarton. Both of these horses need to watch very closely over their shoulders as I am sure Alan Hill and Rodney Mann have a very nice prospect with Delayed In Dublin who jumped very nicely for such a young horse at Barbury racecourse before being Pulled Up earlier in the season, with that experience under his belt he should also go close in what looks an open race.

Selection : Primordial Soup

Alternative: Delayed in Dublin

Hunt Members Race

This looks a poor race with only Long Courier and Lord Brunello looking to hold the best of the form. Long Courier will appreciate any rain which falls between now and the week-end and could prove difficult to beat in testing conditions, Jodie Sole gets on well with the horse and can deny Lord Brunello from completing a hat-trick after two good victories at Cottenham earlier in the season.

Selection : Long Courier

Alternative : Lord Brunello

Hoping to report a few winners in our review of this meeting on Tuesday.
